About the Judo Black Belt Association of Hawaii

The Judo Black Belt Association of Hawaii (JBBAH) is dedicated to preserving and promoting the art and spirit of Judo, as envisioned by its founder, Jigoro Kano. We empower Hawaii's Judo community by supporting the growth and development of clubs, instructors, competitors, and members.
Through organizing tournaments, hosting clinics, providing world-class instruction, and fostering a strong community, JBBAH continues to elevate the practice of Judo in Hawaii. As one of the first Yudanshakai established outside Japan, JBBAH is proud of its rich history and commitment to excellence. We bring world-class Judo instructors to Hawaii, nurturing future generations of skilled judoka.

Our Mission

The Judo Black Belt Association of Hawaii (JBBAH) is committed to inspiring individuals to reach their full potential through the transformative power of Judo. By embracing the principles of maximum efficiency and balanced development, we empower our students to:
  • Build Character: Develop self-discipline, respect, and humility.
  • Achieve Excellence: Master Judo techniques and excel in competition.
  • Foster Well-being: Cultivate a healthy lifestyle and a positive mindset.
Through rigorous training, a strong sense of community, and a dedication to the core values of Judo, JBBAH shapes well-rounded individuals who embody the true spirit of the martial art.
“Judo is the way to the most effective use of both physical and spiritual strength. By training you in attacks and defenses it refines your body and your soul and helps you make the spiritual essence of Judo a part of your very being. In this way you are able to perfect yourself and contribute something of value to the world. This is the final goal of Judo discipline.”
Jigoro Kano, Founder of Judo
