Join us for the JBBAH Judo Tournament on February 15, 2025 at the Halawa District Park Gym in Aiea, HI!UPDATED 2/3/2025

Date and Schedule: Saturday, February 15, 2025. Gym will be open at 7:30 am
8:00 am—Coaches meeting
8:30 am—NOVICE, All Divisions
10:00 am–BANTAM 01, 02
11:30 am—INTERMEDIATE 1,2 AND JUV A

OPEN BANTAM Divisions will begin no earlier than 10:00 am.
OPEN INTERMEDIATE 1,2 and JUVENIELLE A will begin no earlier than 11:30 am.

Weigh in: Sensei please weigh-in contestants on calibrated scale at your dojo.

Eligibility: Open to all Novice competitors in Bantam and Intermediate 1, 2, and Juvenile A and all Open competitors in Bantam and Intermediate 1, 2, and Juvenile A of USJF, USA Judo and USJA.
A copy of Membership card must be included at time of registration/weigh in.

Entry: Contestants please weigh-in with your Sensei, or designated weigh-in sites.
There will be no early, late, or walk-in entries. There will be no weigh-in on the day of the tournament.
Preliminary brackets will be e-mailed to head instructors on
Thursday, February 13 .

Please weigh in your students early!

Please remember to use an approved/conforming white judo Gi to regulation..
Each contestant’s parent/guardian must sign the “Waiver and Release of Liability Agreement to Participate” form and the “Accident Waiver and Official Entry Form” (for each division entered).

Waivers, entry fee, entry form and current USJF membership cards must be presented at weigh in.

Fees: Entry fee of $30 per contestant, checks payable to: Judo Black Belt Association of Hawaii
Submit all entry/waiver forms with payment to your sensei at your club.

Rules and Competition Format:
CURRENT lJF RULES will be used with the following modifications:
Scoring in tachi-waza:
o Wazari
o Wazari awasete ippon
o Ippon
Scoring in ne-waza:
o Wazari – 10 seconds to less than 20 seconds
o Ippon – 20 seconds

· Reverse Seoi-nage will be penalized with shido and no score will be awarded for the technique.
· Use of the head to facilitate a throw by tori is not allowed and tori will be penalized with hansokumake.
· Use of the head to defend as uke is not allowed and uke will be penalized with hansokumake.
· Double knee Seoi Nage WlLL NOT be allowed for all divisions in this tournament.
· Shime-waza and/or Kansetsu-waza not allowed in novice divisions.
· The CARE system will not be utilized.
Match Times:
· Novice Divisions:
o All novice divisions will be two(2) minutes in duration with no golden score period.
§ If the match is tied at the end of regulation time, the match will be decided by hantei.
· All other divisions will be three (3) minutes in duration with an unlimited golden score period.
Judo GI:
· White Judo Gi is mandatory for all competitors.
· Judo Gi fit requirements to be applied within reason based upon the age and size of the competitor. In the event of a non-conforming judo gi, the competitor will be given an opportunity to change his/her judo gi.

Competition Format:
• Double elimination for all divisions with more than 5 competitors
• Round-robin Format for all divisions and age categories with 5 or less competitors, except Divisions with only two contestants will be determined by two wins out of three matches.
• If any contestant moves up in age division, the older age division rules apply.
• If movement is from an uncontested division, then no 1st place medal for uncontested division.
• If contestant remains in an uncontested division, then 1st place will be awarded with 1-2 exhibition matches.

• Round Robin Points will be awarded for type of win based on the highest determining score.
• Division Winner/place determined by point total.
• Tie breakers will be decided in the following order:
o The order of finish is determined by number of wins, then, if tied, by total points.
o If tied in wins and points, the winner of the head-to-head competition between the two who are still tied determines the winner.
o If three or more are still tied in wins and points for any place (first, second, or third), those contestants involved must contest again to determine the order of finish.
o Points are given to the winner only and shall be based on the highest single score of the winner, after factoring out scores that cancel out each other. Point values are Ippon= 10, Waza-ari= 7, Decision= 1.
If a contestant withdraws from a division prior to beginning of his or her final match, the results of all that person’s previous matches shall be discarded.

Referee Briefing: There will be a referee briefing at the tournament starting at 8:00 a.m. to review the rules for the tournament.

Awards: Medals will be awarded for first, second, and third place for all divisions. All novice competitors will receive a medal.

Parking available. Breakfast, lunch and refreshments will be available at the concession.
